Top Tracks Solo
6 Degrees From one song to another, in six moves or fewer.
You get a START song and an END song. Link them through songs that share an artist or a word in the title, in as few moves as you can. New puzzle every day.
Six degrees of music
Every song is connected to every other song, if you know your music well enough. 6 Degrees — full name Top Tracks Solo – 6 Degrees — is a music puzzle, played solo or against other players, from the makers of Top Tracks®. You search for real songs, and each one you add has to link to the last. Pick a song and the game shows you how it links: “Linked by artist: Queen”. Pick one that doesn’t, and it tells you why — no move lost.
Every link is checked against the song’s real details, so the leaderboard is fair. Each puzzle comes with a par: the fewest moves we know it can be done in. Beat it, and par drops to your score.
How songs link
Same artist
Two songs by the same artist link — and featured artists and collaborators count too, so a duet links to both singers’ songs.
A shared title word
Titles that share a word link. Part-words count when the shorter is four letters or more (Bright ↔ Brightside), so do word forms (Say = Says) and numbers (17 = Seventeen). “The” counts; “a”, “to” and “me” don’t.
Artist name ↔ title
A word from an artist’s name links to a song with that word in its title: the band SEVENTEEN links to “Edge of Seventeen”. Two artists only link if they’re the same artist.
Ways to play
Race to the END song, or see how long a chain you can build.
Daily Six
Today’s START and END, the same for everyone. One ranked try, a place on today’s leaderboard and a streak to keep going. Free for everyone.
Free play
A fresh pair whenever you like, each one solvable in three to five moves. Unranked — just you against your personal bests.
Daily Chain
No END song: from today’s START, link as many songs as you can. 60 seconds a link, no song twice and no more than three artist links in a row. Longest chain wins.
Free chain
The chain rules from a random START, chasing your personal best. Free chain uses the same free games a day as Free play.
Co-op
Two to four players share one chain from START to END, taking turns and sharing the six moves.
Versus and Chain versus
Race other players on the same pair, or take turns on one chain until someone can’t find a link in time.
Ran out of time on a chain? Watch an ad for an extra life — one more 60 seconds, once a chain. On the board, a chain made with one ranks below chains of the same length without.
Share it, without spoilers
When you finish, you get your chain, your time, today’s rank, your streak and how many players beat par. The share card shows only coloured squares — green for START, blue for an artist link, yellow for a title word, red for END — so friends can see how you did without seeing the songs.

Fair play and safety
- 13 and over for accounts. Leaderboards and streaks need an account, and accounts need the 13+ confirmation. Guests play unranked.
- No chat. On the leaderboards you appear under a made-up name like “Velvet Otter 482”, or one you choose that passes a strict filter — never your email. There is no free text between players.
- Every link is checked. The game checks each link itself, so nobody can fake a chain onto the leaderboard.
- Matched play. Anyone can play Co-op, Versus and Chain versus against bots, but only signed-in 13+ players are matched with other people — with set reactions instead of chat, and report and block on every player.
Frequently asked questions
What is 6 Degrees?
Top Tracks Solo – 6 Degrees is a music puzzle from the makers of Top Tracks. You get a START song and an END song, and you link from one to the other through songs you choose — by the same artist or a shared word in the title — in as few moves as you can. You have 6 moves at most.
What counts as a link?
Two songs link if they share an artist (featured artists count), if their titles share a word, or if a word in the artist’s name appears in the title — the band SEVENTEEN links to “Edge of Seventeen”. Part of a word counts when the shorter word has at least four letters (“Bright” links to “Brightside”), different forms of a word count (“Say”, “Says” and “Said”), and numbers count whether written in digits or words (“17” and “Seventeen”). Little words like “a”, “to” and “me” don’t count; “the” does.
What happens if a song doesn’t link?
It’s refused, the game tells you why, and it doesn’t cost you a move. Every song you add that does link is a move, including the one that reaches the END song.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes. The Daily Six is the same START and END for everyone, with a new pair every day (UK time). Signed-in players get one ranked try, then can practise; the leaderboard ranks fewest moves first, then results without a hint, then the fastest time. The Daily Chain also has a new START every day.
Is it free?
Yes. The Daily Six is free for everyone. Free play and Free chain give you 5 free games a day, and you can watch an ad for 3 more. 6 Degrees is free to play with ads, shown at the start of a puzzle, on the results, between Free play puzzles, on the leaderboards and in a short break every 5 links of a chain — never while a link’s clock is running.
I’m stuck. Can I get a hint?
Yes, by watching a short ad: a hint tells you the type of link, the artist and the first letter of a song that gets you closer. You can have up to three per try. Hints don’t cost moves, but on the Daily Six leaderboard a result with a hint ranks below results with the same number of moves and no hint.
What if I run out of moves?
You can watch an ad for 2 more moves, once per puzzle, to finish the chain for yourself. On the Daily Six your ranked result still counts as out of moves.
How do streaks work?
Connect the Daily Six on your ranked try every day to build a streak. Streaks need an account. Missed yesterday? Once a week you can keep your streak by watching an ad.
Do I need an account?
No — guests can play the Daily Six and Free play straight away, unranked. An account (just an email address; you sign in with an emailed link, no password) is for people aged 13 and over, and it gets you leaderboards, streaks and today’s Daily Chain.
Can I play with other people?
Yes. Co-op (build one chain together), Versus (race each other on the same pair) and Chain versus (take turns on one chain until someone can’t link) are all live. Anyone can play them against bots; only signed-in players aged 13 and over are matched with other people.
